International Machine Transport USA was happy to work with DynCorp International to transport 11 Huey helicopters on the road. Six aircraft were transported from Huntsville, AL to Elberta, AL. Five were moved over a short distance from Pensacola, FL to Elberta, AL.
The first 6 were the UH-1H Huey models, the five moved locally were the UH-1N Huey models. After all was said and done we also had the opportunity to move a SH-60 Seahawk helicopter that had been decommissioned from military service.
The Huntsville, AL to Elberta, AL trip is 372 miles one way, our driver was tasked with transporting all six aircraft in a week or less. Every day we would deliver a helicopter and then run back to the point of origin to load another helicopter for the next day. Each day our driver ran a total of 744 miles, to move the six UH-1H aircraft we drove a total of 4092 miles in one week.
The Pensacola, FL to Elberta, AL trip was only 20 miles each way, enabling us to move the five UH-1N’s in one day. Despite the short distance involved, critical handling expertise is required with all helicopters on the road. A lot can go wrong and there is really only one thing to get right, deliver it safely and in the same condition it was loaded.
As an added bonus for completing the 11 Hueys in a timely manner, we were given the opportunity to transport the Seahawk helicopter from Pensacola, FL to Elberta, AL.
IMTUSA is proud to continue its work with the military and with military contractors such as Dyncorp. The driver tasked with this move is a US military veteran and always gets excited when he gets to move any version of the Huey, an aircraft he has a lot of experience with.
